First, we want to increase our TIMER trigger so that the participant actually has time to respond. Change it from 500ms to something much longer – like 10000ms!
Next, we need to add a trigger relating to button presses. In this case, we’re using the keyboard. So we go to the Trigger tab and drag a KEYBOARD trigger into our workspace, as below.
The default for KEYBOARD triggers is to fire the trigger whenever the participant presses any button on the keyboard. But we don’t want that. We want the trigger to fire only when certain keys are pressed. To fix this, click on the KEYBOARD trigger and change the properties so that only two keys can be pressed. In the example below, we select “m” and “z” as possible responses. To select these two at once, hold down the Ctrl key.
Try your experiment out! Attempt to hit any key to end the trial. It shouldn’t let you. Then try hitting your selected keys and the experiment should end!
